First Father's Day

We celebrated Father's Day a day early since Mikey was heading out of town on the actual day. William and I picked up Shipley's and dry cleaning, then woke Mikey up with breakfast in bed (a major theme in our house for pretty much all celebrations - we are lazy!). I gave Mikey a mug with William's picture on it that said Daddy's #1 Fan. I figure all coffee-drinking dads need such a mug. It's an unwritten rule.

We had a Father's Day lunch with Mikey's parents and sister. It was our first time to bribe William to behave with food. It totally worked! He has never really had anything other than purees, but another mom I know gave me a pack of MumMum's (little rice cakes that dissolve quickly) that I decided to try out. He LOVED them. I think WalMart is one of the few places that sells them, so I will have to make that trek soon. W was having a fussy day, but we had a peaceful lunch thanks to my new discovery.

Later that day, all three generations of Brown men went for a swim while enjoying some tunes on Gramps's record player.

I think Mikey's favorite gift was the one William gave him that night - three books that Mikey remembers very fondly from his childhood. They read together every night before bed, so I put William on our bed with the books surrounding him. Mikey was totally surprised because he had been bugging me to get the books for ages. I was holding him off because I (errrr, William) wanted to do it for Father's Day. In case you're curious, the books are Where the Wild Things Are, Five Chinese Brothers, and Tikki Tikki Tembo. I had never heard of the latter two, but I imagine William will love them just as much as Mikey did.

I love Tikki Tikki Tembo! It is one that I remember from Kindergarten. I bought a copy a few months ago and its in Zach and Campbell's regular rotation.

James and I were just talking about tiki tiki tembo the other day. Random. I loved that book and can still say his name quickly (I used to think that was cool... Probably still do ;)
