Score!

I belong to the Heights Kids Group, which is an organization of 550+ families who live in the Heights. There is a website that has a forum, classified ads, event listings, etc. We joined a playgroup of kids around William's age, and we have enjoyed the group's two gatherings so far. But the classified ads sure paid off this weekend. Another mom decided to sell a whole bunch of her toddler's clothes. She posted pictures and prices on the board, and I went a little nuts. Look at all I got!

The brands are Gap, Old Navy, Land's End and Children's Place, and the clothes are in all different sizes up to 3T. You will never guess how much I paid for all of these items............

$14

Definitely my best budget shopping adventure to date! He is wearing a pair of the pants today, and they make him look like a big kid.

And here are some of the latest (not yet Photoshop'ed because I'm feeling lazy) pics.

Sneaky boy

Houston, we have a thumb-sucker. He has been toying with the idea for quite some time, trying to decide which finger or combination o' fingers would do the trick. He had narrowed it down and is now a dedicated thumb-sucker. Now of course he won't let me take a picture of his new hobby. But I am determined!

He has also found his feet in the last few days. He never used to pay attention to his feet during diaper changes, but now he's hanging on to them and pulling on his socks. I have a feeling the sock-eating clothes dryer is about to gain a new accomplice who will scatter tiny socks throughout the house. It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

It's crazy how just a few months ago, I couldn't envision a time when he would really interact with us and his surroundings. When William was born, he was truly the cutest little lump of baby I had ever seen. But there wasn't much back and forth with him! Now he soaks it all in and loves it when we go someplace new. He sure enjoyed the toy store we went to today! The girl working at the store ooohed and aahed over how cute he is. And then she was so tactful as to ask me how much I weigh and how much I gained during pregnancy. Um, have we met?! Of course I'm not one to make waves, so I told her...and then came home to complain in my blog. :)

Some photos for your viewing pleasure.

"How dare you dress me up like this and NOT take me to the rodeo!"

Poor Mikey spent hours putting together the Exersaucer last week. It was way more trouble than one would think. Looks like William's bossing me around here.

The most beautiful eyes ever!

He would do anything to be able to suck/chew on the red and blue flower in the middle of the photo. There is just no way he can reach it!

Thanks for the adorable outfit, Jen!

Worst feeling ever

Mikey came home early today, so I had visions of perhaps reading a book or taking a leisurely shower in which I don't have my ear tuned to the baby monitor. Before I could engage in any of these relaxing activities, Mikey mentioned that William had scratched his forehead. It's amazing how quickly those teeny tiny nails grow, and they can do some damage!

While Mikey was on a work call, I decided to cut his nails while he was on the playmat. I got a few of them done, but then all of a sudden William's face turned red. Of course you know what immediately follows - screaming. I look closely at his finger, and it is bleeding...and bleeding...and bleeding. The dang thing bled like I had cut it off at the knuckle. It seems I used the wrong angle and ended up cutting off skin instead of his nail. Ouch.

Speaking of skin - I need to develop thicker mommy skin because I felt AWFUL. I mean, I can handle it when he gets shots because I'm not the one actually inflicting pain on the kiddo. I'm the one who swoops in and comforts him after that mean old lady sticks him with needles. But this time, I wielded the tool that caused my sweet baby to bleed.

Thank goodness Mikey was home. I held W while he washed off his finger. And then yes, I have to confess. I called the pediatrician. In my defense, William is still on several medications for his virus/almost ear infection/congestion, and I have been instructed to call them with updates daily (for over a week, I talked to them two or three times a day). I hadn't talked to them in over 48 hours, and I wanted to report that he was fever-free for the first time in ten days last night - yay! So I did start off with that report. They were delighted to hear that he didn't have a fever.

Then I went into the lame new mom report of a bleeding finger. Basically, I just wanted them to tell me that it's totally normal for it to bleed a whole heck of a lot. They assured me that it is and told me to put a band-aid on it for a little while. But of course we can't let him out of our sight with a band-aid on his finger since he is obsessed with sticking his hands in his mouth! He is currently snoozing on Mikey's shoulder.

My dear, sweet husband made me feel much better...until he started playing a little game with William. He will put W on his lap and point to himself and say "Daddy," then point to W and say "William." For some reason, William is entranced by this little game every time. He really pays attention. Well this time, Mikey added me in as "The mommy who cuts off your finger." I gave him one of my patented looks, and he said, "OK, maybe I'll start saying stuff like that tomorrow."

I feel much better after getting it all out here. I know it's not a big deal at all, but in the moment, I was so upset.
