Happy Days

Things have been going great this last week. I have heard that you hit a turning point around 6 weeks, and William is 6 weeks old today. I think there must be something to that notion. Last night, he slept from about 10:45 until 3:00 am...and I actually woke him up to eat because I was getting uncomfortable. I think he might have slept another half hour or so, but I couldn't sleep at that point, and he was getting restless (read: noisy). I can't explain how good it feels to sleep for more than 3 hours in a row.

I *think* Mikey and I have both gotten real smiles out of him in the last couple of days. It takes a precise combination of baby talk, eye contact, and luck. But they really did look like smiles. It was so exhilarating. The poor guy is going to get sick of me looking him in the eye and saying "ah goo" with a big grin on my face!

Last night, our friend Megan brought us a delicious dinner from Buca di Beppo that will feed us for several days. Mikey and I enjoy our evenings with William, but having someone come by and visit at night is a real treat. William gets loved on by one of his many grown-up friends, and we get to catch up on what's going on in the outside world!

I had lunch today with Marla and Katie, two former co-workers who now stay home with their sweet little girls. It was fun to talk mommy stuff with them and swap stories. And it never gets old to have people tell me how cute William is. :)

TGIF - Mikey is only working two days next week and three days the following week. As well as William and I have been doing during the week, I am delighted to have Mikey around a whole lot during the next couple of weeks. I think our first task will be to introduce a bottle this weekend. This will give me a little more freedom to get out and about without worrying about being with him every 3 hours. I don't intend for us to give him a bottle all the time, but it'll be good for him to take one every so often.

Funny story - Mikey gets up at 5:30 every morning to give me about two hours of uninterrupted sleep. He will take William in the other room so I can have total quiet and zonk out for a bit. This works out great unless William needs to eat during that time. Since we've been talking about introducing a bottle, I got everything ready and told Mikey what he needs to do. Yesterday, he needed to eat around 5:15, so I woke Mikey up and asked if he wanted to try the bottle. He told me he was scared to try it and thought we should wait until the weekend. So I let him fall back asleep and fed the little guy myself. Then later in the morning I thought about it, and a light went off in my head. I asked Mikey if he just said that so he could go back to sleep. Of course he did!! Mikey isn't scared by stuff like that at all! He's such a hands-on dad...he's more ready to jump in and try something new than I am. Silly me for believing him.

The packages containing our Christmas presents from Grammy, Paw Paw and Uncle Michael arrived last night. On one hand, it was a reminder that we won't be spending Christmas with them. It'll be my first time to not be with them for Christmas. On the other hand, it was so exciting to get stuffed stockings and an abundance of presents, many of which are for William. I think in honor of the traditional Mann family Christmas, I will make sausage balls for Christmas morning. I could venture into making Texas Trash too - but that may be a little much for me. I'm such a kitchen amateur!

William loves spending time with the big boys.

Buster was beside himself that he got to get so close to William, but he knew better than to move a muscle.

I love the pictures; he looks like such a happy baby - it must be because he has a great mommy!
