She got me

I am definitely not one to cry in public. Heck, I would say I cry much less than most ladies I know. But my mom got me good this weekend.

My mom made the trip down from Connecticut for my shower, and she bought me a fabulous diaper bag as part of my gift. She also gave us a handmade quilt from her new neck of the woods. It's lovely!

But then came the shoe. I pulled a bronzed baby shoe out of the bag and asked if it was mine. My mom just told me to read the card. It says, "Here's PopPop's baby shoe. Big shoe to fill, so to speak, but I know Bubba will do his part. Love, Mom" *Side note - my family calls the baby Bubba. This will stop as soon as we reveal the name.

PopPop is my mom's dad. He died about 7 years ago when I was a senior in college. He and I had a profoundly special relationship that I cannot put into words. I still miss him and those unbelievable hugs that made me feel so safe. Having his baby shoe in my son's nursery is such a special reminder of PopPop and the bond we shared.

So yeah, I fanned myself and cried at my own baby shower. Thanks, Mom, for coming up with the most thoughtful gift I can imagine. I will always treasure it.

Oh my gosh, this totally made me cry. I remember how close you and Pop Pop were and your mom is so sweet to think of that. What an amazing gift. :)
