If you're wondering how the birthday boy handled the excitement - well, he took it all in stride. I'm pretty sure he had no idea it was his birthday! He was just excited that we brought a miniature basketball goal to the park. He spent about 75% of the time playing with that. He's not exactly a social butterfly at this point, but he enjoyed watching the other kids when he could tear his eyes away from the net.
I wasn't sure how much the kiddos would enjoy the park. There isn't a whole lot to do there on a normal day (it's a rather small park), although the neighborhood kids are used to it. So we pretty much brought every outdoor toy we could think of and borrowed a lot from friends and family. The kids loved it! I think every single thing got played with by multiple children. People stayed longer than expected, which made me feel like it was a success. We all had a blast.
William requested that all his guests wear something representing their favorite sports team. Many of them did, and it was fun to see who people cheer for. William was able to show off his usual Saturday attire one more time.
This is my absolute favorite picture from the party. The combination of Andrew's big brother instinct to straighten William's head (surely to get the picture time over with) and William's perplexed look make me very happy.

My mom was able to come in for the birthday weekend. It was pretty last minute because she decided she needed to make a quick business trip to Texas. Perfect timing! I was so glad she got to take part in the birthday festivities since she lives so far away. William really seemed to enjoy playing with his CC. One of the favorite gifts the birthday boy received is a t-ball set. CC made sure to teach him proper hitting form, which William promptly ditched in favor of swinging indiscriminately so that no one in the vicinity is safe.
William is very hard on himself when athletic endeavors don't go as planned. He must've had a bad swing or hit the ball in what he considered the wrong direction. He needed a little comfort from daddy. We keep telling him to try again (this happens a lot when he's kicking a ball), but his little toddler self sometimes can't stand the disappointment.
My mom bought a supremely cheesy yet awesome birthday hat last year and suggested that we take William's picture in it every year to see how he grows and changes. He typically does not like to keep hats on his head, so it was quite the challenge to get a good picture this year. This is what we came up with...

And here are a couple from last year.

William's wonderful teachers sent me some pictures from his birthday celebration at school. I brought in sugar cookies, and apparently they were a big hit. One of the little girls is licking her lips in the first picture! The teacher said she wanted three cookies. Mr. No Hat loved his birthday hat at school and insisted on wearing it on the playground. Too cute!

And just so I don't forget, William was 34.25 inches tall (50th percentile) and 31.9 lbs (75th to 90th percentile) at his 2-year check-up. He didn't get any shots, but they did have to take his blood. It was definitely a longer process than a quick needle in the leg, but he handled it like the trooper he is. I have been very fortunate that stuff like that really doesn't bother him for more than a moment.
