We went outside to scoop the guts out of our victim. Notice that I have the camera, so I can't take part in that aspect of pumpkin carving. Darn! I do love it when that stringy, gooey mess gets stuck between your fingers. I took one for the team and let the boys take care of it.
Mikey actually carved the pumpkin in about seven minutes at the dinner table. I am always impressed at how he dives into things like that and gets stuff accomplished so quickly. In the time it took him to carve the thing, stick a candle in, and take a picture, I can guarantee I wouldn't have finished drawing a face on it...in pencil...just in case I changed my mind. I can be so inefficient sometimes!
Check out that unprompted sharing! Apparently pumpkins need water too. Or he's just looking for someone to take a few swigs so I'll quit bothering him to drink his water.

Mikey went to the A&M/Tech game on Saturday, so William and I took the opportunity for a nice day of bonding. I wanted to do something out of the ordinary since we pretty much spend every weekday bonding! We went to the Howl-O-Ween Festival at Bridgelands (a community about 20 minutes away). The festival encourages both kids and dogs in costume. There is a nice-sized kids' area with a train, bounce houses, and games. We rode the little train. Our ride lasted a good six minutes, mostly because the train ended up a slight bit off the sidewalk and got stuck. Otherwise it would have been no longer than three or four minutes.

I was looking forward to a clown show featuring a dog. The printed schedule was totally inaccurate, so we caught the very end of the show...twice. William wasn't all that amused, but I thought the dog part was cute, if a little odd. It's an elephant. It's a wind-up toy. It's a dancing dog in a dress!
Then we ran into this pooch, who was in a booth helping advertise a pet stylist. I am normally not the type to ask to take a picture of an oddity like this, but I couldn't resist.
William has a major obsession with basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, etc. He probably threw one of these miniature basketballs once, but he stood here contemplating it forever. I think he hoped that if he stood there long enough, the lady would just give him a ball so he could admire his hard-fought prize. It would have made his day. Alas, all she was offering was pieces of gum. They had a soccer goal next to the basketball net, and I had to physically drag him away from these games because he wouldn't just play and walk away. He lingered, and bigger kids stood there waiting for him to finish. Little did they know he never would (willingly).

When I got home, I felt like I had run a marathon! That was way more walking than I was prepared for at 36 weeks pregnant. I'm glad we went though.
On Halloween, we went to Foundry Methodist's fall festival. It's the church where I am part of a fantastic MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, and William goes to Mother's Day Out there. They also sponsored the kids' area at the festival we went to the day before, so they had a lot of the same activities. There were more at Foundry though, including a mechanical bull. As you can see, my guys are big fans of physical humor. William wasn't in the greatest mood at the festival, but he couldn't help but let out a nice belly laugh when people would fall off the bull. I love this picture because they both look so happy.

This is what happens when I try to take a picture of unwilling subjects. William was desperate to get to the basketball goal.
And here we are, target finally reached. William does not yet accept the notion of waiting in line, so it wasn't easy to get him to wait his turn. And once he was held up in the air, poised to score a basket and a piece of candy...he just stayed there admiring the view. We tried to convince him to drop it in the basket. Poor Mikey's arms had to be unhappy with him for this endeavor. I think Mikey finally found a way to force the ball into the basket. Once again, William would have stayed there all day given the opportunity.
I totally forced them to sit in this "photo op" spot as we were leaving. Neither one was all that enthusiastic. Can you tell?!

We didn't go trick or treating this year. I just didn't feel like William would have gotten much out of it, but he did seem to enjoy having all the visitors at our front door.
