Big boy haircut

William's hair grows at all different rates depending on where it is on his head. The hair above his ears grew must faster than the rest from the start! I have had to tuck it behind his ears for it to look somewhat normal for months now. And the back of his head is just now recovering from the gigantic bald spot he had when he was teeny tiny and sleeping solely on his back.

Mikey was not a fan of the wings, as we called them, over his ears. I thought he looked like a cute little baby who had never had a haircut, so it didn't really bother me. But when William's birthday was coming up, I figured it was as good a time as any for my baby to get his first haircut. I had heard this would be a momentous occasion and figured Mikey would be upset if I got it done without him around. I obviously wasn't thinking clearly. First of all, he is Mikey, therefore he very rarely gets upset at anything other than the Aggies and his fantasy team losing (both have been happening more often than he would care to admit). Second of all, it's a haircut. Boys get them all the time. Girls make a big to-do about it and examine themselves in the mirror for days afterward, wondering why it never again looks as good as it does when you leave the salon. Boys get home, get irritated at all the teeny hairs around their collar, and forget they ever went.

So I took William for a haircut and didn't even tell Mikey. It was a day before William's birthday, which seemed like a good time. Of course I brought my camera along and was *that* mom who had to get every angle of the entire cut. He looked so cute with the drape over him, pretending to drive the car he was strapped into.

I still have the lock of hair the lady gave me as a keepsake, but I think that's a little gross. Not sure what I'll do with it. There's a place in the baby book for it, but is he ever going to open it up and be ever-so-grateful that his mama saved his old hair? I think not.

The official "before" look. You can see a little wing tucked behind his ear.

Business in the front, party in the back.

On the road again.

He even got a little gel! The lady asked if I wanted it. I thought it was too funny to not give him some. Like a 1-year-old needs gel! Perhaps if he was seeing his girlfriend later...

What a face.
