I'm not sure whose idea it was, but as soon as Jennifer solidified her summer trip to the States, we started talking about a girls' weekend. We didn't really know what we meant by that, but it sure sounded good. Galveston is so close to home that we decided to spend a weekend there. The only weekend that would work during her entire trip home was the weekend right after fourth of July (which fell on a Wednesday). A lot of rooms were already booked. Every time I thought I had found the right place for us, something came up, and it was all of a sudden not available. Jennifer swooped in and found us a place in Surfside. None of us knew much about Surfside, but we decided to give it a go!
There is a hotel in Surfside (which is 30-ish minutes from Galveston) that has suites right on the beach. Our requirements for a place were a good view and a kitchen. Check and check! Our hotel was ranked #1 in all of Surfside. Score! Only catch - it was #1 of 1. Ha.

When we went to check in, we learned that our suite was actually not
attached to the main hotel. It looks like the hotel bought a private
beach house about a mile down the beach and renovated it to make six
separate suites. We were on the top floor, and we had a great view of
the (rather seaweed-infested) beach.

| Here's our set-up with the house in the background. It couldn't have been closer to the beach! |
 |
| On Saturday, we went for a nice, long walk down the beach. Our umbrella is the multi-colored one in the middle-right of the picture. While we were gone, the car and red umbrellas staked their claim RIGHT next to us! I couldn't believe how very close they got. The guy would try to converse with me about people walking by while I was reading my book. I don't think so! I am not sitting here to chat with you. |
 |
| And then he got a ticket for having glass on the beach. This made me smile inside for some reason. I know it's wrong. |
 |
| We asked someone to take our picture on Saturday evening. |
 |
| While we were so glad to have a kitchen, we were astonished at the lack of anything kitchen-related in said kitchen. That is why we poured margaritas from a coffee pot. We had to get pretty creative with some things, but we made it! |
 |
| You will notice that I haven't said a whole lot about what we did. What did we do?? I am not exactly sure! Sat around, talked, ate, slept, sat around some more. This was our dinner Saturday night. We had every intention of going out, but we had a smorgasbord at our fingertips and decided to stay on our porch and relax instead of going to a restaurant. |
It was really strange to do what I want, when I wanted for an entire weekend. I have spent some time away from the kids, but there is usually an agenda of some sort. Not in Surfside! Our agenda was check in Friday afternoon and check out Sunday morning. One thing that was fun was when I downloaded a stargazing app on my phone. We all got a kick out of identifying constellations. Does that mean we are old? Oh well. I am pretty OK with that.

| Getting pictures from home makes me so happy! It was fun to be greeted by these sweet boys' faces when I woke up. |
 |
| This is exactly what Mikey and I do every weekend morning at breakfast. |

We were ready to leave a little before check-out time. We had the car all packed, with only our purses in our room. We had been watching some "Veronica Mars" and decided to sit back down and finish the episode. What fun that was. It really brought back memories! Thanks, Jen and Danielle, for such a fun, relaxing weekend.
