Wedded bliss

A couple of months ago, we packed up the swagger wagon and headed off to Fort Worth for my cousin Kelli's wedding. The car ride went pretty well. Neither boy slept as much as I had hoped, but they are not good car sleepers anyway. At the time, William was newly potty trained/training, so I was nervous as to how it would all go. I am very thankful that Buc-ee's really does have the BEST bathrooms! Perfect for a shy potty-er. It was my first Buc-ee's experience. I pretty much had to close my eyes and walk out to avoid buying $75 worth of delicious snacks!

Soon after we got settled in our room, we were off to Angelo's, a barbecue restaurant that my mom loves. I had a delicious BBQ sandwich - and I am a connoisseur of BBQ sandwiches. It's all about the consistency of the meat and the sauce. Yum. Aunt Lisa and (cousin) Katie joined our little circus for dinner. I talked up the sandwich so much that Katie got one to eat later. Hopefully I didn't lead her astray.

It was Ryan's first time to sleep in a hotel room. My mom was kind enough to get us a two-bedroom suite. Ryan and I bunked upstairs, and William and Mikey slept like kings in the giant bed. Before they went to bed, they hung out by the pool with family until William was practically asleep standing up. He had a horrible time getting ready for bed because he was so tired, but staying up late with family is what it's all about when you don't get to see them often.

Ryan has no idea we have gone anywhere. The floor pretty much looks like any other floor one would roll around on!

The next morning, Mikey stayed with the boys while all the ladies went to a bridal brunch at Uncle Mike and Aunt Sallie's house. I was so awesomely coordinated that I spilled a mimosa all over the front of my skirt about .5 seconds after we arrived. What are you gonna do? The food was great - leave it to a group of ladies to linger around the pigs in a blanket. So tasty!

Sisters! Nice outfits, you two.

Mimi and Katie deep in conversation at the brunch

We rarely get pictures of just the two of us.

After we got back to the hotel, we headed out for some Tex-Mex. My mom always has to get her fix when she's in the Lone Star State. I have rediscovered that it is difficult to entertain a baby/child at a restaurant when you can't fill them full of snacks. Ryan tolerated his time in the high chair but wasn't all that enthused. I have to say that eating out is the hardest part about being away from home with two kiddos.

Mikey tried the trusty spoon trick. Ryan went through all the spoons on the table rather quickly. They are more fun to throw than to look at.

The wedding started at 5 pm, so Mikey stayed back at the hotel while both boys finished up their naps. It worked out really well because I didn't want two over-tired boys, especially considering we were in for a late night.

I love this picture! Annie is doing a bang-up job handing out programs while Katie is reading the program and contemplating the meaning of life.

After a beautiful ceremony in which Kelli and Gavin tied the knot, kissed, smiled, and all that jazz, we were off to the reception at the Italian Inn. It's a fun restaurant that they rented out for the occasion - singing waiters and all! Mikey and the boys were in the parking lot when we arrived. We all chatted briefly and then found our table. Not long after we sat down, I asked Mikey for something out of the diaper bag. Whoops. He didn't bring a thing with him! No diapers, no wipes, no burp cloths, no sippy cup, nothing. This is what happens when I'm not there to make sure we are ready to go! We couldn't go all night without our stuff, so he had to drive back to the hotel and get the bag. It worked out because I needed batteries for my flash. I think he made it back in something like 22 minutes. Not bad.

Check out that beautiful bride! William is trying to figure out what is up with the big white dress.

They gave it the old college try. :)

My aunt and uncle can cut a rug! It's nice to see the wedding hosts having fun.

Don't you like how I fancied Ryan up by putting him in socks?! He doesn't have any shoes, and I think shoes are a little silly on a kid that can't walk. But barefoot didn't seem right for a wedding reception. So white socks it was! Classy, I know. He looked nice in his "fancy" shorts and button-down shirt.

Annie's boyfriend Waynne was a good sport hanging out with the kiddos for a lot of the reception. I love how he and Aunt Lisa match like they did it on purpose.

Yay for cousins! We missed Michael but had to capture the moment since that many of us are very rarely in the same place.

My poor baby's face was a hot mess that night. His eczema was at its worst at the wedding, and his eyes were really red thanks to his ever-annoying clogged tear ducts.

It's so much fun for me to watch my kids interact with my family and have a great time.

I didn't get a picture of it, but the funniest thing was when William was wandering around on the dance floor. He was so exhausted that he stretched his arms up at some random guy because he wanted to be picked up. He thought it was Mikey at first. (I was right there watching from a few feet away.) The guy picked him up, and William still didn't quite put it all together that he was being held by a stranger. It was like he knew it but couldn't quite process what was wrong. Meanwhile, the guy's friends are taking pictures of him with the random kid he picked up. Mikey came up and tapped William on the shoulder. They transferred the sleepy sack of potatoes at that point.

Do we look tired? We should! Even with all the extra help, being responsible for two kids who are up way past their bedtime at a wedding reception is exhausting...but totally worth it, of course!

I'm glad I thought to make them take a picture together. They so rarely do that.

The karaoke machine came out to play. You guessed it - they sang "You've Lost that Loving Feeling." It's a funny choice given that this was a wedding reception, but it's such a classic song for a group of guys to sing to a girl. It was very cute.

That happy face makes me smile.

We had a lovely time at the wedding, but all good things must come to an end. Plus, I don't think I could have stayed awake one minute longer than I did that night. We had a big day ahead - Mom and I were about to take the boys to Connecticut. That is a blog post for another day!

Great pictures!! Road trips are always interesting, but sounds like your kids did pretty wel! Loved seeing them in their wedding outfits, and you, too! Ya'll look so nice!
