This event deserves its own post

We went to the Pink House again in May, but this time Mikey's parents and sister joined us. They came up on Saturday, so it was just me and my guys on Friday evening.

I really didn't fish much the last time we went to the Pink House. It seemed like I was always up at the house with Ryan, or I was holding him while Mikey and William fished. This time Mikey encouraged me to fish. I had half a frozen shrimp left and decided to throw in the line one more time before calling it a night. I had caught the world's smallest fish just moments before.

My cork went under, and it felt like a good, solid bite. Little did I know that I was about to catch the biggest fish I have ever caught. He gave me a run for my money, that's for sure. The fight lasted for a good ten minutes. I think 15, but really, who knows? Mikey asked if I wanted him to take over. YEAH RIGHT! The fight is the fun part. I wasn't about to give up, even though this fish was taking me for a ride. I still smile when I remember that Mikey kept saying, "Mommy is dominating the fish!" William repeated it (of course), and it cracked me up.

Once I finally caught a glimpse of his fin, I was astonished. Then I realized we didn't have a net. Nice. Some people were on the dock next door, and they had their eye on me. They said we could come get the net. So Mikey held the line in the water and kept the fish just below the dock. It was clearly tuckered out after the battle. I ran, adrenaline flowing and with Ryan bouncing wildly on my hip, to their dock to get the net. Then I ran back, so excited to get this thing up. Not so much. The net was way too small for this fish. There was no chance.

So Mikey said he would run up to the house to get a bigger one. Swell. He leaves me down on the dock with William, Ryan, and the giant fish. I didn't know what to do with all of these creatures! I polished my mommy of the year award and laid Ryan down flat on the boards of the dock. Don't worry - he wasn't rolling yet! I kept a laser eye on William, who was peering down at the fish, while holding on to the fish and hoping that he wouldn't find a way to wiggle off the hook.

Mikey came back with the net and my camera (thank goodness he brought that!). It took him forever, or so it seemed. The net was in the shed, which had to be unlocked. We had no idea how to get the fish up on the dock. He was so heavy! Mikey is guessing 30 pounds, but I have no clue. He was a solid fish, that's for sure.

We finally got him up and were able to prove his existence with pictures. I was ecstatic - and exhausted! Once we were done photographing him, we pushed him back in the water, and I couldn't get those pictures to Mom and Neil fast enough. I knew they would be so excited for me. Of course Facebook was the next to know.

If you read to the end of this post, you deserve a cookie. I really wanted to record all of this so I don't forget what fun I had! It was a proud day for someone who has been fishing all her life.
