Something in the water

William was baptized on Sunday, September 20 at Chapelwood. He really seemed to enjoy having the holy water sprinkled on his head, almost as much as he liked the sparkly crystal bowl it was in.

The original plan for the baptism was to have it done in the sanctuary by the senior pastor at the 11 am service. You have to get on the list way in advance because they only do it once a month, and there's a limit of three kids per service. A couple of months before W's big day, the pastor's assistant called to tell me that they had to switch September's baptism day because he would be out of town. It was unexpected, this never happens, yadda yadda yadda. Well, my mom already had her flight booked. We decided to keep our day and have a private ceremony in the chapel, performed by the pastor (Tim, pictured above with us) who married Mikey and me. This situation was so incredibly appropriate, given that the senior pastor was supposed to perform our wedding ceremony, but he unexpectedly had to back out because his son got married that same day. It seems our important church-related events are meant to be performed in the chapel by Tim. I will keep that in mind for next time and not even try to deviate!

The ceremony was short, sweet, and personal. The only people there with us were my mom, Mikey's parents, and his sister. It was nice to not have to worry about how William would behave.

We ate lunch together at our house afterward, and then I started preparing to go to Connecticut...until W got a fever around 5 that evening. That's when the crazy rash illness got started, although the rash didn't appear until Wednesday. When William got sick, Mikey and I separately thought to ourselves that perhaps the holy water didn't agree with our little man. I'm not sure what that would say about him! A few drops of the holy stuff, and he burns up and breaks out in a rash. That can't be good. Thankfully, it was attributed to a virus and not a some sort of spiritual outbreak.

We took advantage of the special occasion and took some pictures. You can definitely tell that William doesn't feel 100%. He's still the cutest kiddo on the planet.
