Austin City Limits

We went on our first family road trip (other than to the Pink House) a couple of weeks ago. Many thanks to Jill and Lee for getting married - we needed to get out of town, and their beautiful wedding was the perfect excuse!

The plan was to leave right at naptime, and it worked like a charm. William slept for about two hours, which meant he only had about 45 minutes post-nap to wiggle around in his carseat and wonder, "Are we there yet??" He was quite the trooper. We stayed with Abbey and James, who were completely understanding of all the crap you lug around and spread out when you travel with a baby. Their house was spotless when we got there. We promptly turned it upside-down, but I think it was back in almost pristine condition when we left.

After unpacking and feeding William, we headed to the Oasis to enjoy the sunset. My only experience with the Oasis was when it burned down a few years ago. My mom and I were staying at the Lake Austin Spa Resort when that happened, and it was huge news. Their parking lot is gigantic, and I was overwhelmed at the size of the restaurant itself. The line to get in was probably 50 people long. But they seated you immediately as you got to the front of the line. I didn't see how that was possible until we started climbing stairs. They had a bunch of decks that weren't even being used. I must say, the food was not very good (as I had heard). But it was really great to be on the water and to watch the sun set. I'm glad we went since we had never been.

I swear, the three of us look like we've been out on a boat all day. I am sure we were tired, but there was also a fan blowing about 40mph straight on our faces for this picture. William definitely was not in the best mood for dinner, but I was able to bribe him with Puffs.

These two look fresh as a daisy in comparison to the Browns!

These are just a few of the countless decks.

Pretty sunset.

William slept fairly well overnight for being in an unfamiliar place. He did wake up RIGHT as we were drifting off to sleep, but Mikey was able to quiet him quickly. He woke up again around 2:45 but was lulled back to sleep by the blinky lights and the calming sounds of the computer (he was in his pack n play in the office). He did think he was getting up for the day at 5:45, but I managed to get him to drift back into dreamland after eating.

After a morning spent playing and relaxing, all five of us went to get some Mediterranean food for lunch. Then it was shopping for the girls and some Flip That House for the boys. Abbey and I did a little damage and had a great time. I love shopping with her because we want to go in all the same places.

Too cute

"Aunt Abbey, do I have to wear a lip bumper to get nice teeth like yours?" :)

Ewwwwww. What a good sport.

This child is obsessed with getting under furniture. He is under the guest bed here.

After shopping, the power in Abbey and James's house inexplicably went out for maybe 30 minutes. A part of me worried that we may need to find somewhere else to stay for the night, but the power came back on before we left for the wedding. Apparently there were 15,000+ homes and businesses without power. Fun! So we headed to my aunt and uncle's house, which was conveniently located just 5 minutes down the road. They were so gracious as to watch William while we went to the wedding. When we arrived, W would fuss every time he looked at Mikey or me. We eventually scooted out of there a little early so he would quit that - and he did! William told us he had a fabulous time with Aunt Lisa, Uncle Bobby, Annie, and the dogs. Katie didn't get to see him awake, but she was there for us to catch up with when we went to pick him up.

Let the games begin.

After saying our goodbyes, we were off to a grown-up night out. Yee-haw! The wedding was in the garden of a gorgeous old mansion, with the reception in a ballroom on-site. I love weddings where everything is in one place (sorry to all of our wedding guests!). They had a cocktail time before the wedding, which was something I had never seen before. It was fun! We all felt a little odd taking our drinks to the ceremony, but that seemed to be the thing to do, and who are we to argue with that? We got to see so many people from Southwestern. I sure enjoyed catching up with everyone, and I think Mikey knew more people than he thought he would.

With Danielle and Ebony post-ceremony. I'm so glad Ebony was able to be there considering she has moved to Atlanta since then. Good timing.

Mikey got this lovely shot when he went to grab the camera from the car.

The ballroom

Gorgeous shot, Mikey!

With Jennifer, Persis, and Sophie. Jennifer and Pablo brought their younger set of twins, and they were a hit! Everyone wanted to hold them.

My oldest friend, Ally. We have known each other for 22 years!

Danielle and Ben

The happy couple

Having James there was too much fun. It brought back great college memories - queso and Texas chardonnay, anyone?

Finally! We are so bad at getting pictures together because one of us is always behind the camera.

William was an absolute angel that night. He didn't really wake up when we picked him up and put him back in the pack n play. I expected him to wake up a couple of times that night, but my family must have tired him out because he didn't stir. Thank you, little buddy!

The next morning, we hung out at the house and enjoyed a lazy Sunday. Mikey and I hit the road, grabbed some lunch, and stopped off at Barbara and Zach's house to meet their sweet baby, Campbell. It seems like eons ago that William was that little (she was around five weeks old when we visited). She was just precious, and I enjoyed getting to catch up on their lives. As seemed to be the theme of the weekend, it had been far too long!

My how times have changed!

The drive home took far too long because traffic on I-10 was awful. It was especially miserable because I started to feel sick as soon as we got on the road. I felt so bad that I wasn't even up to singing to entertain William (he didn't sleep nearly as long this time because we were in such stop and go traffic - he sleeps best when you drive fast). Poor Mikey was a great sport about the whole thing, as usual. I'm a lucky girl!
